did back in the 1940s!). This hat was designed as a companion piece to Washington
Square Cardigan. Because the yardage for the Ecological Wool yarn is so generous, there should be enough leftover from the cardigan to knit the hat as well. If the cardigan doesn’t interest you, one skein of this yarn will make four to five hats for your friends, depending on size.

NEEDLES
HAT—size U.S. 10 (6 mm): 16” (40 cm) circular (cir) needle and double-pointed needles (dpn).
RIBBING—size 9 (5.5 mm): 16” (40 cm) cir needle.
Adjust needle sizes, if necessary, to obtain the correct gauge.
NOTIONS
Markers (m); tapestry needle; one 1”(2.5 cm) button; sewing needle and matching thread.
GAUGE
