STITCH GUIDE

K: knit

P: purl

YO: yarn over a needle; creates one stitch

K2tog: knit 2 stitches together; decreases one stitch

P2tog: purl 2 stitches together; decreases one stitch

INSTRUCTIONS

Starting at the bottom of the hat, cast on 87 stitches loosely.

Row 1 (right side): K1; *P2, K2; repeat from * across the row, ending with P2.

Row 2: *K2, P2; repeat from * across to the last 3 stitches, K2, P1.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures 10" from the cast on row, ending by working a wrong side row.

Shaping the Top

Row 1: K1; *P2, K2tog; repeat from * across, ending with P2: 66 stitches.

Row 2: *K2, P1; repeat from * across to the last stitch, P1.

Row 3: K1; *P2tog, K1; repeat from * across, ending with P2tog: 44 stitches.

Row 4: *K1, P1; repeat from * across.

Row 5: *K2tog; repeat from * across: 22 stitches.

Row 6: K1, purl to last stitch, K1.

Row 7: K1; *K2tog; repeat from * to last stitch, K1: 12 stitches.

Row 8: K1, purl to last stitch, K1.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long end. Thread the yarn into yarn needle and draw the end through the remaining stitches and pull the yarn tightly. Use the thread to sew the center back seam.
