BEANIE
In the world of beanie hats, this is an absolute classic that everyone loves. It’s chunky and it’s got lots of cables. If you’re new to cables, this is an ideal first project. Ask any experienced knitter about cables, and they’ll all tell you the same story: They’re much, much easier to work than you might imagine. So grab a cable needle, try out a few cables… then get to work on this hat.
Yarn
Bergere de France Magic + (50% wool, 50% acrylic) chunky yarn 2 x 13/4oz (50g) balls (87yd/80m) in shade 25466 Sepale
Needles and equipment US 9 (5.5mm) knitting needles Medium-size cable needle Yarn sewing needle
Gauge (tension)
16 sts and 22 rows in stockinette (stocking) stitch to a 4-in (10-cm) square on US 9 (5.5mm) needles.
The finished hat measures approx. 17in (44cm) circumference and 10’/tin (27cm) high.
For the hat
Cast on 88 sts.
Row 1: [K1, p1] to end.
Rep row 1,5 times more.
Row 7: P2, [k4, pl] to last st, p1. Row 8: K2, [p4, kl]to last st, kl. Rep rows 7-8 once more.
Row 11: P2, [c4b, p1, k4, p1] to last 6 sts, c4b, p2.
Row 12: K2, [p4, kl] to last st, kl. Row 13: P2, [k4, p1] to last st, p1. Row 14: K2, [p4, kl] to last st, kl. Rep rows 13-14 once more.
Row 17: P2, [k4, p1, c4b, p1] to last 6 sts, k4, p2.
Row 18: K2, [p4, kl] to last st, kl. Row 19: P2, [k4, p1] to last st, p1. Row 20: K2, [p4, kl]to last st, kl. Rep rows 19-20 once more.
Rep rows 11-22 (last 12 rows) twice more.
Rep rows 11-14 once more.
Row 51: P2, [kl, k2tog, kl, pl] to last st, pl. (71 sts)
Row 52: K2, [p3, kl] to last st, kl.

To make up
Sew the back seam using flat stitch.
Weave in all loose ends.
