Cardigan and Tank Top Knitting Pattern

FOR BOTH (Cardigan and Tank Top)
Size: Directions are for 84 cm (33”) bust. Changes for 92 cm (36”) bust are in brackets.

Materials Required:

650 (750) gm or 23 (27) oz beige, 350 (400) gm or 13 (15) oz green. Knitting needles, circular needles sizes 2 and 5 (Am) or 11 and 8 (Eng). Stitch holders.
Stitch Pattern 1: See chart on following page. Sts 1-20 and R 1-18 form one pattern repeat.
Stitch Pattern 2: Reverse stocking or stockinette st.
Tension: On larger needles, 22 sts and 29 R = 10cm or 4”. On smaller needles, 28 sts and 40 R = 10cm or 4”.
Abbreviations: St(s) = stitch(es). R = row(s). K = knit. P = purl.

CARDIGAN

Back: With larger needles and green, cast on 102 (110) sts and work in K 2, P 2 rib for 3 cm (11”), increasing 1 st at end of last R — 103 (111) sts. P next R. Change to beige and work Stitch Pattern 1 from chart. Work a chain-stitch edge, then begin at right edge of chart for small size and at arrow for large. Continue following chart. When work measures 8 cm or 3’’. decrease 1 st at each end of next and every 7th R until 87 (951 sts remain. Then increase 1 sr every 10th R until there are 97 (105) sts. Continue straight until work measures 47 (46) cm or 18 1/2” (18”).

Shape Armholes: Cast off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 R. 2 sts at beginning of next 4 R. and 1 st at each end of next 6 R – 71 (79) sts. Work straight until Back measures 65cm or 25 1/2”.

Shape Shoulders: Cast off 5 (6) sts at beginning of next 8 R Cast off remaining sts.

Pocket (make two): With larger needles and beige. cast on 32 sts. Work in K 2. P 2 rib for 15cm or 6”. ending after a wrong side R. Place sts on a stitch holder.
Right Front: With larger needles and green. cast on 52 (56) sts and work in K 2. P 2 rib for 3cm or 1 1/4”. increasing 1 st at beginning of last row – 53 (57) sts. P next R. Continue in beige and work in Stitch Pattern 1. For smaller size. begin with the 11th st of the pattern; for larger size. begin with the 7th st of the pattern. Continue until work measures 8cm or 3” then increase 1 st at side edge and every 7th R. At the same time, when work measures 15cm or 6° at Front edge work 4 sts. place next 32 sts on stitch holder and work pattern across 32 sts of pocket piece. continue pattern to end of R. Continue pattern and side.. decreasings until 45 (49) sts remain, then increase 1 st each end of every 10th R until there are 50 (54) sts When work measures 43cm or 17’’. increase 1 st at Front edge on next and every 5th R until work measures same as Back at armholes.

Shape Armhole: At armhole edge. cast off 3 sts in next R. 2 sts in every 2nd R 2 times and 1 st in every R 6 times. Work straight at this edge and continue to increase as before at Front edge until 11 sts have been added at Front edge. then work straight at both edges until Front is 64cm or 25”. Shape Collar: At neck edge. cast off 4 sts every 2nd R 2 times and 5 sts 4 times At the same time, when work measures same as Back to shoulder, cast off 5 (6) sts at armhole edge every 2nd R 4 times.
Pocket Finishing: With green and larger needles. work K 2. P 2 rob for 3cm or 11’. Cast off in rib.
Left Front: Work to match Right Front. reversing the shapings and working from the beginning of the Stitch Pattern for both sizes.
Sleeves: With green and larger needles, cast on 42 (50) sts and work 3cm (1 1/4”) in K 2. P 2 rib. Con-tinue in beige and beginning with a pull R, work in Stitch Pattern 2. increasing 1 st each end of every 8th R until there are 70 (78) sts. Continue straight until work measures 45cm or 173/4”.
Shape Armhole: Cast off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 R, 2 sts at beginning of next 6 (8) R. 1 st at each end of next 10 (8) R. cast off 2 sts at beginning of next 8 R and 3 sts at begin¬ning of next 2 (4) R. Cast off remaining sts.

Finishing: Press pieces. Join shoulders, then sew on sleeves. Sew up sleeve and side seams. With larger Circular needle and green, begin at lower edge of Right Front and pick up and K 96 sts to beginning of collar. 46 sts up side of collar 1 st in corner. 26 sts up other edge of collar. 60 sts across Back. and work along other side to match. Work back and forth in K 2, P 2 rib for 3cm or 1 1/4”. increasing in each corner st of collar in every 2nd R. Cast off in rib.

TANK TOP

Back: With smaller needles and green. cast on 106 (118) sts and work 10cm or 4” in K 2. P 2 rib. Con¬tinue in Stitch Pattern 2. increasing 1 st each end of every 10th R until there are 122 (134) sts. Work straight until piece measures 33 (32) cm or 13” (12 1/2”).

Shape Armholes: Cast off 3 sts at beginning of next 6 R. 2 sts at beginning of next 8 (10) R. then decrease 1 st each end of next 5 (6) R – 78 (84) sts. Work straight until Back measures 50cm or 19 1/2”. Work 22 (25) sts, cast off center 34 sts. work to end. Continue on 22 (25) sts on 1 side. casting off 2 sts at begin¬ning of next R at neck edge. Decrease 1 st in next 2 R at neck edge. At the same time. at 52cm or 20 1/2”. shape shoulder by casting off 7 (8) sts at beginning of next R at armhole edge and 7 (9) sts in the 2nd R. Work other side.

Front: Work as for Back until work measures 23cm or 9” Divide sts and place hall on a stitch holder Decrease 1 st at neck edge on every 4th and 5th R alternately until 25 sts have been decreased at this edge. At the same time. shape armhole and shoulder as for Back. Work other half.

Finishing: Press. Join all seams. With smaller circular needle and beige. pick up 128 (132) sts around arm¬hole edge and work in K 2, P 2 nb for 3cm or 1 1/4” Cast off in rib At neck edge. pick up 231 sts and work 5cm or 2’’ in rib, working 3 sts together in every red for center V. Cast off.
