DDP

Slip 1 purlwise from left needle (LN) to right needle (RN), slip next stitch purlwise from LN to cable needle (cn) and hold in front, slip 1 more stitch from LN to RN, replace stitch from cn to LN, replace 2 stitches from RN to LN, p3tog.

Shape armholes

Shape shoulders

Shape front neck

Next row (WS) Bind off 13, work to end. Dec 1 at end of every RS row 4 (4, 8, 8) times—14 (16, 15, 18) stitches. Work even until piece measures same length as Back to shoulders.

Shape shoulder

Shape shoulder at beginning of RS rows as for Back.

RIGHT FRONT

Work as for Left Front, EXCEPT reverse shaping. Bind off for armholes at beginning of WS rows and decrease at end of RS rows. Shape neck at beginning of RS rows. Shape shoulder at beginning of WS rows.

SLEEVES

Cast on 43 (45, 47, 49). Knit 1 row. Work 13 rows in Seed. Next row (WS) Knit for turning ridge. Work 14 rows in Seed. [Inc 1 each side on next row, work 9 rows] 13 (12, 13, 14) times—69 (69, 73, 77) stitches. Work even until piece measures 17" from turning ridge, end with a WS row.

Shape cap

At beginning of next 2 rows, bind off 8 (8, 9, 9). Dec 1 each side every RS row 6 (6, 7, 9) times, [work 5 rows, Dec 1 each side next row] 3 times, [work 3 rows, Dec 1 each side next row] 3 times. At beginning of next 4 rows, bind off 4. Bind off remaining 13 stitches.

FINISHING

Block pieces. Sew shoulder seams. Set in sleeves. Sew side seams. Sew sleeve seams, reversing seam at turning ridge so it will be concealed when cuff is folded back. Place markers for 5 buttons on Right Front, with top marker 6.5 (6.5, 7, 7.5)" below neck edge and remaining markers 1.5" apart.

EDGING

With crochet hook and B, starting at left side seam, work single crochet around lower, front and neck edges at the following rates: 1 sc for each stitch along horizontal edges and 1 sc for every 2 rows along vertical edges. At top and bottom corner of each front edge, sc 2 in the stitch or row just before and just after the corner. At each marked button position, ch 4, skip 4 rows along Right Front edge, continue sc. Join with slip stitch at end of round. Next round Ch 2, work hdc into each sc of previous round, working 3 hdc at top and bottom corner of each front edge. At each buttonhole, work to 1 sc before buttonhole, skip that sc, 2 hdc into buttonhole, skip 1 sc, continue hdc. Join at end of round and fasten off.

SLEEVE EDGING

With WS facing, crochet hook, and B, starting at seam, work 1 sc in each cast-on stitch, join at end of round. Next round Ch 2, work hdc into each sc of previous round, join at end of round and fasten off. Fold cuffs at turning ridge. Sew button at seam, tacking cuff into place. Sew buttons on Left Front.

EMBROIDERY

With crochet hook and B, starting at the hem of one vertical knit ridge on Back, crochet chain to cover ridge. Repeat on remaining ridge. With sewing thread and needle, baste a diagonal line from the bottom button or buttonhole to center of shoulder seam, matching embroidery ridge on Back. Starting at bottom button or buttonhole, crochet chain to cover basting thread. Remove basting thread.
