Color Work Jacket Free Knit Pattern

Jubilee - Designed by Daniela Nii. The collar of this fun knit will excite color-work fans. Two cleverly placed shaping rows do not interrupt the patterning, but assure that the shawl collar falls beautifully around the neck and down the front of this jacket.

DEC 1 FOR NECK: At beginning of RS rows K2tog. At end of RS rows K2tog.

DEC 1 FOR SLEEVES: At beginning of RS rows Sl 1, k1, SSK. At end of RS rows K2tog, k2.

BODY RIB OVER A MULTIPLE OF 5 + 4: RS rows K4, [p1, k4] to end. WS rows P4, [k1, p4] to end.

Body: With 4.5mm/US7 needle and MC, using a temporary cast-on, cast on 186 (206, 226, 246, 266) sts. Set-up row (WS) K1 (edge stitch), p4, [k1, p4] to last stitch, k1 (edge stitch). Row 1 (RS) Slip (Sl) 1, work Body Rib to last stitch, k1. Slipping first and knitting last stitch for chain edge, work 7 more rows in Body Rib. Eyelet row (RS) Sl 1, [yo, k2tog] to last stitch, k1. Begin front bands: Next row (WS) Using cable cast-on, cast on 8, sl 1, [p1, k1] 4 times, place marker (pm), purl to last stitch, k1. Next row (RS) Using cable cast-on, cast on 8, sl 1, [k1, p1] 4 times, pm, Body Rib to marker, [p1, k1] 4 times, k1 — 202 (222, 242, 262, 282) stitches. Join hem: Remove waste yarn from cast-on edge and place stitches on smaller needle. Joining row (RS) Work to 1 stitch before marker, fold hem to wrong side. Holding smaller needle behind and parallel to larger needle, purl next stitch together with first stitch from smaller needle. Continue working 1 stitch from each needle together in established Body Rib to marker; purl next stitch together with last stitch from smaller needle, work to end. Work 1 row even. Divide for Fronts and Back: Next row (RS) Work to 2 (3, 3, 5, 6) before marker, bind off 5 (7, 7, 11, 13) for armhole, work to 2 (3, 3, 5, 6) before marker, bind off 5 (7, 7, 11, 13) for armhole, work to end. Cut yarn. Place first and last 34 (38, 43, 46, 50) stitches on hold for fronts — 86 (94, 104, 110, 118) stitches remain for Back.

Back: Join yarn at left armhole. Work 1 row even. Shape armholes: At beginning of every row, bind off 2 (2, 3, 3, 3) twice, 1 (2, 2, 2, 3) twice, 0 (1, 1, 2, 2) twice, 0 (0, 1, 1, 2) twice, 0 (0, 0, 1, 1) twice and 0 (0, 0, 0, 1) twice — 80 (84, 90, 92, 94) stitches. Work even until armhole measures 8 (8 1/2, 9, 9 1/2, 9 1/2)", end with a WS row. Place stitches on hold.

Left Front: Join yarn at front edge and work 1 row even. Shape neck: Next row (RS) Shape armhole as for Back at beginning of RS rows, and AT SAME TIME continue neck decrease at end of row on this row, then every 4 rows 4 (6, 8, 8, 8) times — 26 (26, 27, 28, 29) stitches remain when neck and armhole shaping are complete. Work even until piece measures same length as Back to shoulder. Place stitches on hold.

Right Front: Work as for Left Front EXCEPT reverse shaping. Shape neck at beginning of RS rows and armholes at beginning of WS rows.

Sleeves: With 4.5mm/US7 needle and MC, cast on 96 (106, 116, 126, 136). Set-up row (WS) K1 (edge stitch), p4, [k1, p4] to last stitch, k1 (edge stitch). Row 1 (RS) Sl 1, work Body Rib to last stitch, k1. Slipping first and knitting last stitch for chain edge, Dec 1 each side on next row, every 4 rows 11 (10, 9, 6, 0) times, then every RS row 12 (16, 20, 26, 35) times — 48 (52, 56, 60, 64) stitches. Work even until piece measures 12 1/2 (12 1/2, 13, 13, 13 1/2)", end with a WS row. Cut yarn.

Cuff: Change to 4mm/US6 double-pointed needles and A. Increase row (RS) K2tog, [M1, k4 (5, 5, 6, 6)] 10 (9, 10, 9, 10) times, M1 0 (1, 0, 1, 0) times, k4 (3, 2, 2, 0), k2tog — 56 (60, 64, 68, 72) stitches. Pm and join to work in the round. Knit 1 round. Work Cuff Chart. With A, knit 2 rounds. Eyelet round [K2tog, yo] to end. Knit 2 rounds. Change to 3.25mm/US3 needles and knit 8 rounds. Bind off.

Finishing: With RS together, join shoulders using 3-needle bind-off as follows: Join 26 (26, 27, 28, 29) stitches of first shoulder; bind off back neck stitches until 26 (26, 27, 28, 29) stitches remain; join second shoulder.

Collar: With WS facing, 4mm/US6 circular needle and A, starting just above left front band, [pick up and knit (PUK) 1 in chain edge stitch, yo] to shoulder seam, pm, PUK 28 (32, 36, 36, 36) (1 for every bound-off stitch) along back neck, pm, [yo, PUK 1 in each chain edge stitch] down right front neck to beginning of neck shaping. Count stitches before first marker and after second marker and adjust each to a multiple of 4 plus 1 on next row if necessary, and M1 in next row in center of back neck for 29 (33, 37, 37, 37) back neck stitches. Row 1 (WS of Collar) Purl across, purling yarn-overs tbl. Work 2 rows in stockinette. Begin Collar Chart: Row 1 (RS) Sl 1, work chart to last stitch, k1 in same color as previous stitch. Slipping first and knitting last stitch for chain edge, work through Row 10 of chart. Row 11 (RS) Knit to marker, [k1, M1] 10 (10, 12, 12, 12) times, k9 (13, 13, 13, 13), [M1, k1] to marker, knit to end — 49 (53, 61, 61, 61) back neck stitches. Work Rows 12-24 of chart. Row 25 (RS) Knit to marker, [M1, k3 (3, 4, 4, 4)] 7 times, M1, k7 (11, 5, 5, 5), M1, [k3 (3, 4, 4, 4), M1] 7 times, knit to marker — 65 (69, 77, 77, 77) back neck stitches. Work Rows 26-31 of chart. With A, work 2 rows in stockinette. Eyelet row (WS) Sl 1, [p2tog, yo] to last 3, p2, k1. Next row (RS) Sl 1, k2, [k1 tbl, k1] to last stitch, k1. Purl 1 WS row.

Collar facing: Change to 3.25mm/US3 circular needle and work in stockinette until piece measures 2" from eyelet row, end with a WS row. Next row (RS) Sl 1, k6, place these 7 stitches on hold, bind off to last 7 stitches, k7. Work in stockinette until strip measures 4" from bind-off. Bind off. Repeat on remaining held stitches. Fold collar facing to WS at eyelet row and sew edges to ends and WS of Collar. Block.
