MATERIALS

Cardigan

- 11 (12, 13) 1.75oz/50g skeins (each approx 70yd/64m) of Classic Elite Yarns Newport (cotton) in #2001 white (A)

Tank top

- 6 (7, 7) hanks in #2016 natural (B)

- One pair each sizes 10 and 10.5 (6 and 6.5mm) needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

- Size J/10 (6mm) crochet hook

GAUGE

14 sts and 26 rows = 4"/10cm over garter st using size 10.5 (6.5mm) needles.

16 sts and 19 rows = 4"/10cm over k1, p1 twisted rib using size 10 (6mm) needles.

FOR PERFECT FIT, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGES.

CARDIGAN

BACK

With larger needles and A, cast on 62 (66, 70) sts. Work in garter st until piece measures 13"/33cm from beg.

Armhole shaping

Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 0 (1, 1) time—52 (54, 58) sts. Work even until armhole measures 7.5 (8, 8.5)"/19 (20.5, 21.5)cm. Bind off all sts.

LEFT FRONT

With larger needles and A, cast on 35 (37, 39) sts. Work in garter st until piece measures 13"/33cm from beg.

Armhole shaping

Bind off 5 sts at beg of next RS row (armhole edge), then dec 1 st at armhole edge every other row 0 (1, 1) time—30 (31, 33) sts. Work even until armhole measures 5.5 (6, 6.5)"/14 (15, 16.5)cm.

Neck shaping

Next row (WS) Bind off 10 (11, 11) sts, work to end. Cont to dec 1 st at neck edge every row 5 times—15 (15, 17) sts. When same length as back, bind off rem sts for shoulder.

RIGHT FRONT

Work to correspond to left front, reversing shaping.

SLEEVES

With larger needles and A, cast on 40 (44, 48) sts. Work in garter st, inc 1 st each side every 14th row 3 times—46 (50, 54) sts. Work even until piece measures 10"/25.5cm from beg.

Cap shaping

Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 14 (16, 18) times. Bind off rem 8 sts.

FINISHING

Block pieces lightly to measurements. Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeves into armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams. With crochet hook and 2 strands B, chain 10"/25.5cm for each tie and fasten securely at top of neck.

TANK TOP

BACK

With smaller needles and B, cast on 59 (63, 67) sts. Twisted rib—Row 1 (RS) *K1 tbl, p1; rep from *, end k1 tbl. Row 2 P1 tbl, *k1, p1 tbl; rep from * to end. Rep these 2 rows for twisted rib, inc 1 st each side, working inc sts into rib, every 12th row 3 times—65 (69, 73) sts. Work even until piece measures 11.5"/29cm from beg.

Armhole shaping

Bind off 7 (8, 8) sts at beg of next 2 rows—51 (53, 57) sts. Work even until armhole measures 2.5 (3, 3.25)"/6.5 (7.5, 8)cm.

Neck shaping

Work 12 sts, join 2nd ball of yarn and bind off center 27 (29, 33) sts in rib, work to end. Work on 12 sts each side for straps until armhole measures 6 (6.5, 6.75)"/15 (16.5, 17)cm with straps slightly stretched. Bind off.
