KNITTED MEASUREMENTS

- Length 25"/63.5cm

- Width (sleeve to sleeve edge) 60"/153cm

MATERIALS

- 19 1 3/4oz/50g balls (each approx 48yd/45m) of Schulana/Skacel Collection Fiumo (acrylic/acetate 4) in #2182 fuchsia

- Size 11 (8mm) circular needle, 29"/75cm long OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

- Size J/10 (6mm) crochet hook

- Stitch markers

GAUGE

8 sts and 10 rows = 4"/10cm over St st using size 11 (8mm) needles.

TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

Note

Poncho is knit from left sleeve edge to right sleeve edge.

BODY

Cast on 100 sts. Working back and forth in rows, work in St st until piece measures 25 1/2"/65cm from beg, end with a WS row.

Beg neck opening

Next row (RS) K50 (back), join a 2nd ball of yarn and k2, k2tog, k to end (front). Work both sides separately for 1 row. Rep neck dec for front on next row and every other row once more—47 sts for front and 50 sts for back. Work even until neck opening measures 4 1/2"/11.5cm. Tie yarn marker at front neck edge to mark center front. Work even until neck opening measures 7"/18cm, end with a WS row. Next row (RS) K50; k into back and front of next st (inc), k to end. Rep inc every other row twice more—50 sts for front and back. Next row (WS) P all 100 sts joining front and back. Work even until piece measures 60"/153cm from beg. Bind off.

FINISHING

Do not apply steam to finished piece.

HOOD

Beg at center front neck marker, pick up and k 15 sts from right front neck, 31 sts from back neck and 15 sts from left front neck—61 sts. Do not join. Working back and forth in rows, work in St st until hood measures 10"/25.5cm, end with a WS row. Dec row K28, k2tog, pm, k1, pm, ssk, k28—59 sts. P 1 row. Cont to dec every other row by k2tog before first marker and ssk after 2nd marker 5 times more—49 sts. Bind off. Fold hood in half at center and sew top seam along bound-off edge. With crochet hook, work an edge of sc all around outer edge of poncho and around hood opening.
