Size 7 (4.5 mm) straight knitting needles (or size required for gauge)
Two Size 7 (4.5 mm) double-pointed knitting needles

STITCH GUIDE
K: knit
Sl: slip the stitch from one needle to the next without working it
P: purl
INSTRUCTIONS
Note: All slip stitches are worked as if to purl.
Starting at the bottom of the pot holder, cast on 60 stitches.
Rows 1 and 2: *K1, sl 1, P1, sl 1; repeat from * across.
Rows 3 and 4: *P1, sl 1, K1, sl 1; repeat from * across.
Repeat Rows 1 through 4 until pot holder measures 8" (20.32 cm). Bind off 58 stitches, leaving 3 stitches on the needle. Place the 3 stitches on one double-pointed needle and work the hanging cord. The cord is worked from the right side only; do not turn.
Row 1: With a second double-pointed needle, K2. Do not turn. Slide the stitches to the opposite end of the needle.
Row 2: Take the yarn around the back side of the stitches and with first needle, K3; do not turn. Slide stitches to the opposite side of the needle.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the cord is approximately 3" (7.62 cm). Finish off by knitting 3 stitches together, and sew the loose end of the hanging cord to the pot holder to make a loop.
