Sparkling Burgundy Jacket Pattern

SPARKLING BURGUNDY
A yarn with great color depth requires the simplest stitch work — stockinette. Five rows of crochet ribbon with bead accents make this a dressy jacket ready for any event. Designed by Knitter's Design Team.
DEC 1
At beginning of RS rows K1, k2tog.
At end of RS rows SSK, k1.

At end of RS rows M1, k1.
BACK
With MC and larger needles, cast on 82 (86, 90, 96, 100, 104, 108, 112, 118, 122). Work in stockinette stitch, keeping edge stitches in garter stitch, until piece measures 1", end with a WS row.
Shape waist
Dec 1 each side every 6 rows 4 times — 74 (78, 82, 88, 92, 96, 100, 104, 110, 114) stitches. Work 2" even, end with a WS row.
Inc 1 each side every 6 rows 4 times — 82 (86, 90, 96, 100, 104, 108, 112, 118, 122) stitches. Work even until piece measures 14 (14.5, 15, 15.5, 15.5)", end with a WS row.
Shape armhole
At beginning of next 2 rows, bind off 8 (10, 10, 12, 14). Dec 1 each side every RS row 4 (6, 3, 6, 6, 8, 8, 7, 9) times — 58 (64, 68, 72, 76) stitches. Work even until armhole measures 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9)". Place stitches on hold.
LEFT FRONT
With MC and larger needles, cast on 41 (43, 45, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 59, 61). Work as for Back to armhole EXCEPT shape waist at beginning of RS rows only.
Shape armhole
Shape armhole at beginning of RS rows. Work even until piece measures 19 (20, 20, 21, 21)", end with a WS row.
Shape neck
At beginning of WS rows, bind off 6 (7, 7, 8, 7) once, then 4 (4, 4, 4, 3) once. Dec 1 at end of every RS row 3 (3, 3, 4, 4) times — 16 (18, 20, 20, 24) stitches. Work even, keeping edge stitches in garter stitch, until armhole measures 9 (9.5, 10, 10.5, 11)". Place stitches on hold.
RIGHT FRONT
Work as for Left Front EXCEPT reverse shaping. Bind off armhole at beginning of WS row and decrease at end of RS rows. Shape neck at beginning of RS rows.
SLEEVES
With MC and larger needles, cast on 44 (46, 50, 52, 54). Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 1 (2, 2, 1, 1)", end with a WS row. [Inc 1 each side of next RS row, work 9 (7, 7, 7, 7) rows even] 11 (12, 12, 14, 15) times — 66 (70, 74, 80, 84) stitches. Work even until piece measures 17 (17, 17.5, 18, 18.5)", end with a WS row.
Shape cap
At beginning of next 2 rows, bind off 8 (10, 10, 12, 14). Dec 1 each side every RS row 13 (9, 9, 7, 5) times, then every 4 rows 3 (6, 7, 8, 10) times — 18 (20, 22, 26, 26) stitches. Bind off.
FINISHING
Block pieces.
Shoulders
With RS together and smaller needle, join shoulders using 3-needle bind-off as follows: Join 18 (20, 23, 23, 25) stitches of first shoulder; bind off Back neck stitches until 16 (18, 20, 20, 24) stitches remain; join second shoulder.
Sew side seams.
Work Beaded Crochet Border (follow instructions on page 30).
Weave in ends. Block edging.
Sleeve trim
Sew underarm seam. Work Beaded Crochet Border, working hdc into each cast-on stitch across bottom of Sleeve on Round 1. On Round 5, string approximately 60 beads.
Seams
Set in sleeves, placing center of sleeve cap 1" in front of shoulder seam. Block garment.
PUK
With RS facing, smaller needle, and B, pick up and knit (PUK) at the following rate: 2 stitches for every 3 rows along vertical and diagonal edges AND 1 stitch for every bound-off stitch along horizontal edges.
NOTES
Instructions are for 10 sizes: if there are only 5 numbers, they apply to 36-38 (40-42, 44-46, 48-50, 52-54); if there is only 1 number, it applies to all sizes. Knit the first and last stitch of every row to keep edge stitches in garter stitch.
