BACK

With smaller needles, cast on 87 (97, 105, 115). Purl 3 rows. Change to larger needles. Begin Charts: Row 1 (RS) K1 (edge stitch), p5 (8, 10, 13), work Chart B, p4 (6, 8, 10), work Chart A, p4 (6, 8, 10), work Chart B, p5 (8, 10, 13), k1 (edge stitch). Row 2: P1, k5 (8, 10, 13), work Chart B, k4 (6, 8, 10), work Chart A, k4 (6, 8, 10), work Chart B, k5 (8, 10, 13), p1. Continue in reverse stockinette and charts until piece measures 4.5".

Shape waist: [Dec 1 each side next RS row, work 3 rows even] 3 times—81 (91, 99, 109) stitches. Work even until piece measures 8". [Inc 1 each side next RS row, work 3 rows even] 3 times—87 (97, 105, 115) stitches. Work even until piece measures 13.5 (14, 14, 14.5)", end with a WS row.

Shape armholes: At beginning of next 2 rows, bind off 4 (4, 5, 5). Dec 1 each side every RS row 4 (7, 7, 10) times, then every 4 rows 3 (3, 4, 4) times—65 (69, 73, 77) stitches. Work even until armhole measures 7 (7.5, 7.5, 8)", end with a WS row. Next row (RS): Bind off 17 (19, 20, 21), work across center stitches until there are 31 (31, 33, 35) on right needle and place on hold, bind off remaining 17 (19, 20, 21).

LEFT FRONT

With smaller needles, cast on 49 (54, 58, 62). Purl 3 rows. Change to larger needles. Begin Chart B: Row 1 (RS) K1 (edge stitch), p5 (8, 10, 13), work chart, p15 (17, 19, 20), k2, k1 (edge stitch). Row 2 (WS) P3, k15 (17, 19, 20), work chart, knit to last stitch, p1. Continue in stockinette, reverse stockinette and chart until piece measures 4.5". Shape waist at beginning of RS rows as for Back. Work even until piece measures same length as Back to armhole, end with a WS row.

Shape armhole: Shape armhole at beginning of RS rows as for Back—38 (40, 42, 43) stitches. Work even until armhole measures 4.5 (5, 5, 5.5)", end with a RS row.

Shape front neck: Next row (WS) P3, k11, place these 14 stitches on hold, bind off 3, work to end. At beginning of WS rows, bind off 2 (2, 3, 3) once, then 2 once. Work even until armhole measures 6.5 (7, 7, 7.5)". Bind off remaining 17 (19, 20, 21) stitches.

RIGHT FRONT

With smaller needles, cast on 63 (68, 72, 77). Purl 3 rows. Change to larger needles. Begin Charts: Row 1 (RS) K1 (edge stitch), k1, p7, k1, p1, work Chart A, p4 (6, 8, 10), work Chart B, p5 (8, 10, 13), k1 (edge stitch). Row 2 (WS) P1, k5 (8, 10, 13), work Chart B, k4 (6, 8, 10), work Chart A, k1, p1, k7, p2. Continue in stockinette, reverse stockinette, charts, and rib until piece measures 4.5". Shape waist at end of RS rows as for Back. Work even until piece measures same length as Back to armhole, end with a RS row.

Shape armhole: Shape armhole as for Back EXCEPT bind off at beginning of WS rows and decrease at end of RS rows—52 (54, 56, 58) stitches. Work even until armhole measures 4.5 (5, 5, 5.5)", end with a WS row.

Shape front neck: Next row (RS) Work 28 in pattern and place these stitches on hold, bind off 3, work to end. At beginning of RS rows, bind off 2 (2, 3, 4), then bind off 2. Work even until armhole measures 6.5 (7, 7, 7.5)". Bind off remaining 17 (19, 20, 21) stitches.

LEFT SLEEVE

With smaller needles, cast on 51 (53, 57, 61). Purl 3 rows. Change to larger needles. Begin Charts: Row 1 (RS) K1 (edge stitch), p3 (2, 2, 2), work Chart C, p4 (6, 8, 10), work Chart A, p4 (6, 8, 10) work Chart D, p1 (0, 0, 0), k1 (edge stitch). Continue in reverse stockinette and charts, working edge stitches in stockinette, and AT SAME TIME, [Inc 1 each side next row, work 5 rows even] 0 (6, 3, 0) times, [Inc 1 each side next row, work 7 rows even] 10 (5, 8, 11) times, working new stitches in reverse stockinette—71 (75, 79, 83) stitches. Work even until piece measures 19 (19.5, 20, 20)", end with a WS row.

Shape cap: At beginning of next 2 rows, bind off 4 (4, 5, 5). Dec 1 each side every RS row 6 (5, 5, 3) times, then every 4 rows 3 (4, 4, 6) times—45 (49, 51, 55) stitches. [At beginning of RS row, bind off 4 (4, 4, 5); at beginning of WS row 3 (3, 4, 4)] twice. At beginning of every row, bind off 3 (4, 4, 5) once, 3 (4, 4, 4) once, 3 (4, 5, 4) once, and 3 (4, 3, 5) once—19 stitches.

Saddle: Next row (RS) K1 (edge stitch), work Chart A as established, k1 (edge stitch). Work even until Saddle measures 3.5 (4, 4, 4)". Place stitches on hold.

RIGHT SLEEVE

Work as for Left Sleeve EXCEPT work Chart D where Chart C was and Chart C where Chart D was. Work WS bind-offs on RS rows and RS bind-offs on WS rows.

FINISHING

Match left sleeve to back left shoulder and armhole, with the wider section of sleeve cap toward the back. Sew back edge of sleeve saddle to bound-off shoulder stitches, then sew cap to armhole. Sew right sleeve saddle and cap to back right shoulder and armhole. Sew front shoulders and armholes to other side of sleeve saddles and caps. Sew side and sleeve seams.

COLLAR

With RS facing and larger needles, starting at Right Front and continuing in pattern, work across 28 from Right Front neck holder, pick up and knit (PUK) 9 (9, 10, 10) along neck edge, work across 19 from Right Sleeve saddle holder, PUK 8 (8, 9, 10) along Right Back neck, work across 17 from Back neck holder, PUK 8 (8, 9, 10) along Left Back neck, work across 19 from Left Sleeve saddle holder, PUK 9 (9, 10, 10) along Left Front neck, work across 14 from Left Front neck holder—131 (131, 135, 137) stitches. Work 3 rows, working picked-up stitches in reverse stockinette. Dec Row (RS) Work in pattern, decreasing 2 stitches evenly spaced in each of the 4 picked-up sections—123 (123, 127, 129) stitches. Work 3 rows even. Next row (RS) Repeat Dec Row—115 (115, 119, 121) stitches. Work 3 rows even. Change to smaller needles. Knit 3 rows. Bind off.

Fold Right Front facing to WS along column of knit stitches before Chart A. Sew in place. Fold Left Front facing to WS along first knit stitch and sew in place. Position female half of snap fasteners in center of Right Front facing, with the first 2.5" from top, the last 5" from bottom, and the other 2 spaced evenly between. Sew in place. Sew male half of snaps to RS of Left Front, centered 1" from the edge.

Cut 4 strands of ribbon 60" (1.5m) long. Weave ribbon through eyelets as shown in charts.
