Directions are for smallest size with larger sizes in parentheses. If there is only one figure, it applies to all sizes.
KNITTED MEASUREMENTS

- Upper arm 11 (11 3/4, 12 1/2)"/28 (30, 32)cm
MATERIALS
- 7 (8, 9) 1 3/4oz/50g balls (each approx 107yd/100m) of Brown Sheep Co. Kaleidoscope (cotton/wool 4) in #10 Belize
- One pair size 9 (5.5mm) needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
- 1yd/1m of 1/4"/6mm leather lacing
Dog Sweater
- 1 ball in #10 Belize
- One pair size 10 1/2 (6.5mm) needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
- Size J (6mm) crochet hook
GAUGE
18 sts and 19 rows = 4"/10cm over twisted rib pat using size 9 (5.5mm) needles. FOR PERFECT FIT, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
TWISTED RIB
(odd number of sts)
Row 1 (RS) K1 tbl, *p1, k1 tbl; rep from * to end.
Row 2 P1, *k1 tbl, p1; rep from * to end.
Rep these 2 rows for twisted rib.
BACK
Cast on 73 (77, 83) sts. Work in twisted rib for 4 1/2"/11.5cm. Inc 1 st each side of next row then every 10th row twice more—79 (83, 89) sts. Work even until piece measures 11 1/2"/29cm from beg.
Armhole shaping
Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 1 (2, 4) times—67 (69, 71) sts. Work even until armhole measures 7 1/2 (8, 8 1/2)"/19 (20.5, 21.5)cm. Bind off all sts knitwise.
FRONT
Work as for back until piece measures 9 1/2"/24cm from beg. Mark center st of row.
Divide for neck
Next row (RS) Work to 2 sts before center st, k2tog, join another ball of yarn and bind off center st, SKP, work to end. Cont to work both sides at once, work to armhole. Then work armhole shaping as on back—32 (33, 34) sts rem each side. Work even until armhole measures 6 1/2 (7, 7 1/2)"/16.5 (18, 19)cm.
Neck shaping
Bind off 13 (13, 14) sts from each neck edge and work each side separately until same length as back. Bind off rem 19 (20, 20) sts each side for shoulders.
SLEEVES
Cast on 41 (43, 43) sts. Work in twisted rib for 4"/10cm. Inc 1 st each side of next row and rep inc every 12th (10th, 8th) row 3 (4, 6) times—49 (53, 57) sts. Work even until piece measures 17 1/2"/44.5cm from beg.
Cap shaping
Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 8 (9, 10) times. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2 (2, 3) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem 15 (17, 17) sts.
FINISHING
Block pieces to measurements. Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeves into armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams. Thread lacing through center front opening as in photo.
DOG SWEATER
GAUGE
12 sts and 18 rows = 4"/10cm over twisted St st using a double strand of yarn and size 10 1/2 / 6.5mm needles. TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
SWEATER
Beg at lower edge with double strand of yarn, cast on 40 sts. Row 1 (RS) *K1 tbl, p1; rep from * to end. Rep row 1 for twisted rib for 2"/5cm. Next row (RS) *K1 tbl; rep from * across. Next row (WS) Purl. Rep these 2 rows for twisted St st inc 1 st each side every other row 4 times. AT SAME TIME, when piece measures 3 1/2"/9cm from beg, work as foll:
Leg openings
Next row (RS) Work 6 sts, join another 2 balls of yarn and bind off 4 sts, work to last 10 sts, join another 2 balls of yarn and bind off 4 sts, work 6 sts. Work each section with separate balls of yarn for 3 rows. Next row Cast on 4 sts over each set of bound-off sts to rejoin piece. Work even for 5 rows more on 48 sts. Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every 4th row 3 times. Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off rem 14 sts.
FINISHING
Block piece lightly. Pick up and k 64 sts evenly along entire shaped top edge, beg with 4-st bind-offs. Work in k1, p1 rib for 2 rows. Bind off. Sew sides of rows tog for under seams.
Straps (2)
With crochet hook and double strand of yarn, ch 24. Sew straps to inside to secure around front legs.
