JACKET
Back
With smaller needles and A, cast on 108 (120, 130, 142, 154). Knit 2 rows. Next row Knit, increasing 12 (12, 14, 14, 14) evenly across—120 (132, 144, 156, 168) stitches. Change to larger needles. Work Chart A until piece measures approximately 14 (14.5, 15, 15.5, 15.5)", end with a WS row.
Shape armhole
At beginning of next 2 rows, bind off 9 (12, 12, 16, 17). Dec 1 each side every RS row 7 (8, 10, 10, 11) times—88 (92, 100, 104, 112) stitches. Work even until armhole measures 8 (8.5, 9, 9.5, 10)", end with a RS row. Place stitches on hold.
Left Front
With smaller needles and A, cast on 54 (62, 65, 71, 77). Knit 2 rows. Next row Knit, increasing 6 (6, 7, 5, 7) evenly across—60 (68, 72, 76, 84) stitches. Work as for Back to armhole.
Shape armhole
At beginning of RS rows, shape armhole as for Back—44 (48, 50, 50, 56) stitches. Work even until armhole measures 5 (5.5, 6, 6.5, 7)", end with a RS row.
Shape front neck
Next row (WS) Bind off 10 (11, 12, 12, 12), work in pattern to end. Dec 1 at end of every RS row 8 (9, 10, 10, 12) times—26 (28, 28, 28, 32) stitches. Work even until armhole measures 9 (9.5, 10, 10.5, 11)", end with a RS row. Place stitches on hold.
Right Front
Work as for Left Front, EXCEPT reverse shaping. Bind off armhole at beginning of WS rows and decrease at end of RS rows. Shape neck at beginning of RS rows. Place stitches on hold.
Sleeves
With smaller needles and A, cast on 57 (61, 65, 67, 71). Knit 2 rows. Next row Knit, increasing 7 (7, 7, 9, 9) evenly across—64 (68, 72, 76, 80) stitches. Change to larger needles. Work Chart A until piece measures 1", end with a WS row. [Inc 1 each side on next row, work 3 rows] 1 (1, 2, 4, 8) times, [Inc 1 each side on next row, work 5 rows] 15 (16, 16, 15, 13) times, working increases into pattern and always working first and last 2 stitches in A—96 (102, 108, 114, 122) stitches. Work even until piece measures approximately 17 (17, 17.5, 18, 18.5)", end with a WS row.
Shape cap
At beginning of next 2 rows, bind off 9 (12, 12, 16, 17). Dec 1 each side every RS row 8 (13, 14, 18, 19) times, then every row 17 (10, 10, 2, 4) times—28 (32, 36, 42, 42) stitches. Bind off.
Finishing
With RS together, smaller needles and A, join shoulders using 3-needle bind-off as follows: Join 26 (28, 28, 28, 32) stitches of first shoulder; bind off Back neck stitches until 26 (28, 28, 28, 32) stitches remain; join second shoulder.
Neckband
With RS facing, smaller needles and A, pick up and knit (PUK) around neck edge at the rate of 4 stitches for every 5 rows along vertical edges and 1 stitch for every bound-off stitch. Knit 2 rows. Bind off.
Front bands
With RS facing, smaller needles and A, PUK along Right Front edge at the rate of 4 stitches for every 5 rows. Knit 2 rows. Bind off. Repeat for Left Front edge.
Set in sleeves, placing center of sleeve cap 1/2" in front of shoulder seam. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew snap to front bands 1/2" from neck edge if desired.
SKIRT
With larger needle, cast on 224 (240, 248, 264, 280, 292, 308). Work Chart B until piece measures 4.5", end with a RS row. Next row (WS) P1, p2tog, work to last 3 stitches, p2tog, p1—222 (238, 246, 262, 278, 290, 306) stitches. Cut yarn. Joining round (RS) Slip last 6 stitches to smaller needle and hold behind the first 6 stitches. Knit first stitch from each needle together, place marker (pm), continue in pattern joining next 5 stitches to stitches on smaller needle, work to marker at end of round—216 (232, 240, 256, 272, 284, 300) stitches. Work Chart C until piece measures 14" or desired length, end with any round of chart except 6-10.
Shape hip
Begin chart D: Row 1 Work 41 (45, 47, 51, 55, 52, 62), pm, work Chart D, pm, work 77 (85, 89, 97, 105, 117, 119), pm, work Chart D, pm, knit to end. Continue through Round 35—176 (192, 200, 216, 232, 244, 260) stitches.
Waistband
Change to smaller needle. [Purl 1 round, knit 7 rounds] twice. Bind off.
Finishing
Cut elastic to fit around waist with 1/2" overlap. Sew ends together. Fold waistband to WS, enclosing elastic, and sew bound-off edge in place.
With smaller needle and RS facing, pick up and knit (PUK) along one side of back slit at the rate of 3 stitches for every 4 rows. Bind off. Repeat for other side of slit.
NOTES
Jacket is worked in stranded colorwork. Carry color not in use loosely on WS of piece. Use long-tail cast-on throughout. Shaping in pattern: If the shaping breaks up any cable twist, do not work that twist. Simply knit or purl the stitches in the appropriate color.
