MATERIALS:

l4 (15 : 16) 2-oz. balls of Twilley’s Stalite No. 3 Soft cotton. Nos. 14 and 12 wool crochet hooks. 6 buttons, waist-length elastic.

MEASUREMENTS:

To fit a 32(34: 36) in. Bust. 34 (36 : 38) in. Hip. Jacket: Length 19 ins. Sleeve 12 ins. Skirt: Length 21 ins.

TENSION:  1 patt. to 1-1/4 ins. in width on No. 14 hook

Jacket

BACK:

Beg. at shoulder. With No. 14 hook, make 70 (76 : 82) ch.

1st row: 1 d.c. in 2nd ch., 1 d.c. in each of next 2 ch. (4 ch., miss 3 ch., 1 d.c. in next 3 ch.) to end.

2nd row: 1 ch., 1 d.c. In first d.c. (7 tr. in ch. sp., 1 d.c. in centre of 3 d.c.) to end, 1 d.c. in last d.c.

3rd row: 1 ch., 1 d.c. in first d.c., *2 ch., miss 1 tr., 1 tr. in next tr., 2 ch., miss 1 tr. (1 tr., 2 ch., 1 tr.) in centre tr., 2 ch., miss 1 tr., 1 tr. in next tr., 2 ch., 1 d.c. in rep. from * to end.

4th row: 6 ch., 3 d.c. in centre 2 ch. sp. of gr. (5 ch., 3, d.c. in centre sp. of next gr.) to end, pending 3 ch., I tr. in last st.

5th row: 2 ch., 4 tr. in the first ch. sp. (1 d.c. in centre of 3 d.c. 7 tr. in ch. sp.) to end, ending with 4 tr. in last sp.

6th row: 3 ch., 1 d.c. in first ‘tr., 2 ch., miss 1 tr., 1 tr. in next tr., 2 ch., 1 d.c. in d.c., *2 ch., miss 1 tr., 1 tr. in next tr., 2. ch. (1 tr., 2 ch., 1 tr.) in centre tr., 2 ch., miss 1 tr., 1 tr in next tr., 2 ch., d.c. in d.c., rep. from * to end, ending (2 ch., miss 1 tr., I tr. in next tr.) twice, 2 ch., I d.c. in last st.

7th row: 1 ch., 2 d.c. in the first sp. (5 ch., 3 d.c. in centre, 2 ch. sp. of next gr.) to end, ending 2 d.c. in, the last sp. The 2nd to 7th” rows form patt. Rep. them twice ‘more, then work 2nd, 3rd and 4th rows again. Change to No. 12 hook **.

Next row: 2 ch., 6 tr. in first ch. sp., work as 5th/row to end, finishing with 7 tr. in last sp.

Rep. 3rd and 4th rows. Rep. last 3 rows once. Mark each end with coloured thread. Continue until work measures 19 ins., ending with a 6th row. Fasten off.

FRONTS (Two Alike):

Beg. at shoulder. With No. 14.hook, make 34 (40 : 40) ch. Work as back to **

Next row: 2 ch., 6 tr. in first ch. sp., work as 5th row to end. Rep. 3rd and 4th rows.

Next row: Work as 2nd row to last sp., 7 tr. in last sp.

Work 2 rows. Mark shaped edge of last row with coloured thread. Continue’ straight until work measures same as back. Fasten off.

SLEEVES:”

With No. 14 hook, make 22 (22 : 22) ch. Work 4 rows as back.

Next row: 2 ch., 6 tr. in first ch. sp., work as 5th row to end, finishing with 7 tr. in last sp.

Rep. 3rd. and 4th rows. Rep. last 3 rows once.

Change to No. 12 hook and rep. them 4 (4 : 4) times more. Mark each end with coloured thread. Work 12 ins. straight, ending with a 6th row. , Fasten off.

COLLAR:

With No. 14 hook, make 76 (82 : 88) ch. Work 1st to 7th patt. rows as for back. Change to No. 12 hook and rep. 2nd and 6th rows. Fasten off.

BORDERS:

Join yarn to lower edge of right front. With No. 14 hook, work 99 d.c. along front edge of neck. Work 3 more rows in d.c.

Next row: (make buttonholes):

1 d.c. in each of 11 d.c. (3 ch., miss 3 d.c., 1 d.c. in each of 13 d.c.) 5 times, 3 ch., miss 3 d.c.,1 d.c. in each of last 5 d.c.

Work 4 more rows d.c., working 1 d.c. in each of 3 ch. on first of these rows. Fasten off. Work Left front border to match, omitting buttonholes.

For Collar border work 7 rows of 18 d.c. along each short edge.
