Furry Angora Sweater with Lace Collar

SIZES: Directions for small size (8-10). Changes for medium size (12-14) are in parentheses. .

Body Bust Size: 311/2 “-321/2 ” (34″-36″). Finished Bust Size: 34″ (371/2″). MATERIALS: Joseph Galler Belangor Angora, 27 (28) 10-gram balls. Crochet hooks sizes G and H. One small button. Lace collar, if desired.

GAUGE: 7 sts          2″; 4 rows = 1″ (pat, size H hook).

To Bind Off: At beg of row, sl st loosely across specified number of sts; at end of row, leave specified number of sts unworked.

SWEATER: BACK: Band: Beg at side edge, with size G hook, ch 9.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across-8 sc. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in back 1p of each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat last row until 59 (71) rows from start. Change to size H hook. Working along side edge of band, ch 2, sc in edge of first row, * ch 1, sk next row, sc in edge of next row, repeat from * across-30 (36) sc; 60 (72) sts. Ch 2, turn.

Next Row: Sc in first ch-1 sp, * ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * across, end ch 1, sc in turning ch 2-30 (36) sc; 60 (72) sts. Repeat last row for pat until piece measures 9″ (91/2″) above band. Ch 1, turn.

Shape Armholes: Bind off (see To Bind Off) 4 sts each side of next row. Work 1 row even. Bind off 2 sts each side of next row-24 (30) sc: 48 (60) sts. Work even unitl armholes measure 2″ above first bound-off sts.

Divide For Neck Opening: Keeping to pat, work until 12 (15) sc are completed. Ch 2, turn. Work even on these 12 (15) sc until armhole measures 7″ (71/2″) above first bound-off sts. End off. Join yarn in next sc on last long row, ch 2, work in pat across-12 (15) sc. Complete same as for other side.

FRONT: Work same as for back until armhole measures 51/2″ (53/4″) above first bound-off sts; do not divide for opening —24 (30) sc; 48 (60) sts.

Shape Neck: Keeping to pat, work until 9 (11) sc are completed. Turn. Bind off 2 sts at center edge every other row twice-7 (9) sc. Work even until armhole measures same as back. End off. Sk center 7 (9) sc on last long row, sc in next ch-1 sp, work in pat across-9 (11) sc. Complete same as for other side. SLEEVES: Band: Beg at seam edge, work same as for back band for 29 (33) rows.
Change to size H hook. Working along side of band, ch 2, sc in edge of first row, * ch 1, sk next row, sc in edge of next row, repeat from * across-15 (17) sc. Work in pat for 4 rows. Inc 2 sts each side of next row (to inc, work sc, ch 1, sc in first and last ch-1 sp), then every 9th row 4 times more-25 (27) sc; 50 (54) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 18″ from start or desired length to underarm. Shape Cap: Bind off 4 sts each side of next row. Work 1 row even. Bind off 2 sts each side of next row, then every 4th row 3 times more-13 (15) sc; 26 (30) sts. Work even until cap measures 61/2″ (7″) above first bound-off sts. End off.

FINISHING: Sew shoulder seams. Gather top of cap tightly to fit armhole; sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. From right side, work 1 rnd sc around neck and back opening, working a ch-1 1p at upper right back opening edge for buttonhole. Sew on button. Sew on collar
