BACK

With Color A, cast on 50 (56) sts. Work garter st (K every row) for 6 rows.

Narrow Stripe Pat-Row 1-right side: With Color B, K.

Row 2: With B, P. Carry color not in use loosely across on wrong side, catch­ing it when carried more than 4 sts. Row 3: *K1B, K1A; rpt from * to end. Row 4: With A, P.

Row 5: With A, K.

Row 6: *P1A, P1B; rpt from * to end. Row 7: With B, K.

Row 8: With B, P. Cut B.

With Color A, continue st. st until 12 inches from beg, ending with P row. Rpt first 5 rows of Narrow Stripe Pat. Key Stripe Pat-Row 1-wrong side: P6 (4) B, *P2A, P8B; rpt from * ending last rpt P2B (P2A).

Row 2: K2 (0) B, *K2A, K8B; rpt from * ending last rpt K6 (4) B.

Beg with Row 3 of Chart No. 1, con­tinue pat following Chart for next 8 rows, completing Key Stripe. Rpt Rows 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Narrow Stripe

Pat, cut B. With A, work even until 22 inches from beg, ending with K row. Mark for underarm.

Armholes: Bind off 4 (5) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every second row 4 (5) times; 34 (36) sts. Work even until 8 (8¹/2) inches above underarm marker, ending with K row.

Shoulders: Bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem 12 (14) sts for neck.

POCKET LININGS

With Color A, cast on 16 sts. Work st. st (P 1 row, K 1 row) for 6 inches, ending with P row: sl sts to holder. Make 2.

LEFT FRONT

With Color A, cast on 32 (34) sts. Work garter st (K every row) for 6 rows, ending at underarm edge.

Narrow Stripe Pat-Row 1-right side: K27(29)B, join a second ball of Color A and K5A for garter st front border.

Row 2: K5A, pass B under A on wrong side and P27 (29) B.

Row 3: K1B, *K1A, K1B; rpt from * to within 5 sts of end, then K5A with second ball.

Row 4: With A, K5, P27 (29).

Row 5: With A, K27 (29), with second ball K5A.

Row 6: K5A, P1B, *P1A from first ball, P1B; rpt from * to end.

Row 7: K27 (29) B, K5A from second ball.

Row 8: K5A, P27 (29) B. Cut B and second ball of A.

Next Row: K4 (5), take up 16 sts of Pocket Lining to same needle with the 12 (13) sts and work to end of row. Work even until same length as Back to stripe, ending with P row at under­arm edge. Rpt first 5 rows of Narrow Stripe Pat.

Key Stripe Pat-Row 1-wrong side: K5A, P2B, P2A, P8B, P2A, P8B, P2A, P3 (5) B.

Beg with Row 2 of Chart No. 2, work in pat following Chart for 9 rows, continuing to work the 5 front border sts in garter st with Color A. Rpt Rows 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Narrow Stripe Pat, cut B. With A, work even until same length as Right side of Back to underarm, ending on right side with K row. Mark for underarm.

Next Row: K5, P to end.

Next Row: Bind off 4 (5) sts, K to end. Work 1 row even, then dec 1 st at armhole edge of next row. Rpt this dec at armhole edge every second row 3 (4) times; 24 sts. For Size 12-14 Only, work 2 rows even after last armhole dec. Cut A.

Collar and Neck Shaping: With Color B, cast on 9 sts to free needle, looping on sts with 1 end of yarn.

Row 1: With B and needle with 9 cast on sts, K 5 sts of garter st border for Collar, join A and P19A; 33 sts.

Row 2-First Dec Row: With A, K17, K2 tog; with B, K14; 32 sts.

Row 3: K14B, P18A.

Row 4-Second Dec Row: K16A, K2 tog with A, K14B. Rpt dec at inner edge of Collar every second row 6 more times at same time shaping shoulder as on Right side of Back when arm­hole is same length, binding off last st of shoulder as follows: cut A and draw end through loop on needle; K14 rem sts of Collar with B, ending at front edge.

Short Rows for Shaping Collar-Row 1: K10, turn.

Row 2: S1 1 st, K9, turn.

Row 3: K14, end at neck edge.

Row 4: K14. Rpt these 4 short rows 5 (6) times more, then rpt first 3 rows again, ending at neck edge. Place these 14 sts on holder. Cut B, leaving a 20 inch end for weaving.

Mark position of 4 buttons on Left Front border: top button 2 rows below Collar, bottom button about 5 inches above lower edge and rem 2 buttons evenly spaced bet. Key Stripe should be approximately centered bet 2 mid­dle buttons.

RIGHT FRONT

With Color A, cast on 32 (34) sts. Work garter st (K every row) for 6 rows, ending at front edge.

Narrow Stripe Pat—Row 1—right side: K5A for garter st front border, K27 (29) B.

Row 2: P27 (29) B, K5A for front border.

Row 3: K5A, K1B, *K1A, K1B; rpt from * to end. Work to correspond to Left Front until the same length to the marker on Left Front for the bottom button, end­ing on the wrong side at the front edge.

Buttonhole Rows: K2, bind off next 2 sts for buttonhole, work to end. Cast on 2 sts over buttonhole in the next row. Work even until same length as Left Front to the pocket opening.

Divide for Pocket Opening: P4 (5), P16and place on holder for the pocket border, P7 (8), K5 border sts. Work to corre­spond to Left Front to Collar, repeat­ing buttonholes

opposite markers, working the 10 rows of Key Stripe as on Chart No. 3, and shaping arm­hole as on Left side of Back, ending at side edge, 1 row above cast-on row of the fourth buttonhole; 24 sts.

Collar and Neck Shaping—Row 1: With A, P19, join B and K 5 sts for the border; cast on 9 sts of B as before; 33 sts.

Row 2: First Dec Row: With B, K14; with A, SKP, K to end; 32 sts. Work to correspond to Left Front, shaping shoulder as on Left side of Back when the armhole is the same length; cut A, bind­ing off last st as on Left front; with B, K14 rem sts, ending at the front edge of Collar.

Work Short Rows as on Left Front, ending at neck edge with Row 3. Break B and place 14 rem sts on holder.

LEFT POCKET BORDER

Beg at Left end of the pocket opening, take up 16 sts from holder. Join Color A and K first row on the right side, K 6 more rows for garter st border, ending with row worked on the right side. Bind off. Work Right Pocket Border to cor­respond.

SLEEVES

With Color A, cast on 25 sts. Work garter st (K every row) for 6 rows, ending on wrong side.

Next Row—right side: K, increasing

1 st each side. Continue st. st (P 1 row, K 1 row), increasing 1 st each side every sixth row 2 more times; 31 sts. P next row then start sleeve stripe pat following Chart No. 4 for 20 rows, increasing as to P 1 st each side of the top row of stripe; 33 sts. Cut B. With A, work 4 (2) rows even in st. st. Inc 1 st each side of next row, then rpt incs every fourth (second) row 1 (3) more times; 37 (41) sts. Work even until 15¹/2 inches from beg, ending with K row. Bind off 4 (5) sts at beg of each of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every second row 8 (9) times; 13 sts. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem 9 sts.

FINISHING

Sew Pocket Linings to wrong sides of Fronts with lower edge of Pocket Lin­ings at top of stripe nearest lower edge of Fronts. Sew the ends of Pocket Bor­ders to right side of Fronts. Finish buttonholes in buttonhole st. Sew seams, matching stripes. Weave ends of Collar tog. Sew neck edge of Collar to neck edge of Back. Set in sleeves with sleeve seams at center underarm. Turn back Collar and tack 5 cast on sts at inner edge of Collar to 5 sts of front border to cover the joining of the 2 colors. Block.
