Vintage Sweater pattern for two

A His and Hers pullover with a differ­ence. Knitted with round neck or polo collar, it has bands of twists running from neck to lower edge. The pullovers are the latest skimpy look. Both in one size only.

Join in yarn at neck edge and keeping continuity of patt., work on remaining sts. to correspond with other side.

THE BACK—Work as given for Front to***

Dec. once at each end of needle in every row until 43 [B63] sts. remain, then in every alt. row until 19 [B29] sts. remain.

Work 1 row.

Break off yarn. Slip remaining sts. on a stitch holder and leave.

THE SLEEVESUsing No. 7 Needles, cast on 37 [B247) stitches.

Work as given from •• to •• for Front once.

Using No. 3 Needles, proceed as fol­lows:—

1st row.K.10 [BK.15], (P.2, K.3) three times, P.2. K.10 (13-6.15).

2nd row.P.10 [BP.15], (K.2, “Twist 3”) three times, K.2, P.10 [BP.15]. Rep. 1st and 2nd rows once [Btwice]. Keeping continuity of patt., inc. once at each end of needle in next and every following 8th [B-6th] row until there are 53 [B69] sts. on needle.

Continue in patt. without shaping until side edge measures 161 [B-19] ins. (or length desired) from commencement, finishing with a 2nd row.

Shape top by casting off 4 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows. [Size B only.Dec. once at each end of needle in every row until 49 sts. remain.]

Both Sizes.Dec. once at each end of needle in next and every alt. row until 7 sts. remain.

Work 1 row without shaping.

Break off yarn and slip remaining sts. on to a stitch holder

Work another Sleeve in same manner.

THE NECKBAND—Using a fine back-stitch seam, sew right sleeve to front and back, and left sleeve to front only, noting that tops of sleeves form part of neckline.

With right side of work facing, using No 7 Needles and commencing at back of left sleeve, knit up sts. for neckband as follows:—Patt. across sts. from left sleeve stitch holder inc. once in first st., knit up 15 [13-20] sts. evenly along left side of neck, patt. across 13 sts. from front stitch holder, knit up 15 [B-20] sts. evenly along right side of neck, patt. across sts. from right sleeve stitch holder. inc. once in last st.. then work across sts. from back neck stitch holder thus:—

Inc. once in first st., K.0 [BK.5]. patt. 17. K.0 [B—K.5], inc. once in last st. (80 [B100] sts.) 1st row.“Twist 3”, K.2, rep. from • to end of row. 2nd row.P.2, K.3, rep. from • to end of row. Rep. 1st and 2nd rows twelve times, then 1st row once. Cast off loosely.

TO MAKE UP—With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly. Using a flat seam for neckband and a fine back-stitch seam for remainder of seam, sew left sleeve to back. Using a fine back-stitch seam, sew up side and sleeve seams. Turn neckband to wrong side and slip-stitch lightly in position. Finally, press all seams.
