Shape top by casting off 7 sts. at beginning of next 2 rows, then decrease at each end of every alternate row until 76 remain. Work straight until 3 rows of 23rd pattern have been done from beginning. Next row: K.32, knit twice into each of next 12 sts., knit to end (88 sts.). Work straight until 25 patterns have been done, cast off.

TO MAKE UP

Do not press. Sew together side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Insert sleeves, gathering all fullness to top of shoulder. Pick up border stitches from one front and continue in Moss pattern until the strip reaches to centre back of neck. Cast off and work other border to match.

Thread elastic through hems at wrists. Cut the 2-inch ribbon in half and pleat each piece into a fan shape. Stitch the pleats in position with matchingcotton, then sew fan into position on each shoulder as a stiffening for sleeve top. Bind shoulder seams firmly to avoid stretching.
